Matt is an award-winning playwright whose works have been shown at theatres and festivals around the UK.
In October 2023, the premiere of his play GENTLEMEN at the Arcola Theatre received rave 4 and 5 star reviews. The Telegraph included the production in its ‘Best Theatre of 2023’. Dominic Cavendish described GENTLEMEN as ‘the best new play about university power-games ... since David Mamet’s Oleanna’. The production received 3 Off West End Awards nominations, including one for Best New Play.
In 2017, Matt's play JAM premiered to critical acclaim at the Finborough Theatre, starring Harry Melling. Matt received an Offie nomination for Most Promising Playwright, and the text is published by Oberon Books. His ensemble comedy THE NOBLE NINE premiered at VAULT Festival 2019. He has been commissioned by the Nuffield Theatre Southampton, Mountview, and Oxford School of Drama. He has had short plays on at the Almeida, the Orange Tree, Theatre503 and more.
He won the Oxford New Writing Festival 2013 Best Script Prize, has been shortlisted for the Kings Cross Award for New Writing and the Marlowe Society’s Other Prize , and longlisted for the Bruntwood Prize twice. He has been on the Royal Court Young Writers Programme, the Orange Tree Writers Collective, and the Arcola Writers Group.
